Greetings Everyone! Welcome back to the wonderful world of ”Glistenveld”.
My name is David and I am delighted to be working as a concept artist for team Nysko. Before I delve into what I have been doing for the game let me give you a potted history of my experience in the realms of concept art.
I started freelancing in 2001 and have been working pretty much non-stop on all manner of role-playing games, collectable card games and board games since.
Some of my highlights include working on:
– Dungeons and Dragons ( concept art, miniature figure design, interior art and cover art)
– Game of Thrones ( collectable card game art)
– World of Warcraft (role-playing game)
– Star Wars ( concept art for miniatures game )
– Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000 ( roleplaying games)
During all these years of producing art for games, I had never done anything for video games, which is why I enrolled at the Games Hub at the University of Essex in Colchester. The brainchild of Steven Huckle, the Games Hub enables “creatives” to gather, collaborate and produce video games for you good folks out there.
This is where Nysko came in. Martyn asked me if I would be happy to do some illustrative pieces for cut-scenes in the first chapter of the game. Of course, I was more than happy to oblige as the fantasy setting is right up my street!
I set about sketching up some pieces and let my pencil explore all things Dwarven. These initial sketches were well received and led to me being asked to rework the User Interface design in the game in the same style as the sketches. The images below, I hope, give you an idea of the flavour I am going for.
So, I have been beavering away on the cut-scenes (six done so far), UI art and buttons, promotional art pieces and concept art. It’s safe to say I am thoroughly enjoying myself.
We will be showing the latest version of the game at Rapture Festival at Charter Hall in Colchester on the 21st and 22nd of July, so come down and say, “Hi” and see what we have been up to!
Until next time, may your beards grow long my friends.
