“I get to thinking since it’s worked all this time, and I don’t remember changing any related code, there’s no need to test it, right?”
Firstly, I’d like to apologise for a bug I introduced in the latest halloween patch. If anyone was playing the campaign and trying to travel between maps in this patch, they’ll probably experience the same nasty surprise I had when I was testing it on Monday. For clarification: the campaign was failing to change maps.
Fortunately, I will be releasing another patch in the next few days to fix this and a few other bugs (details will appear on the download page); Stay tuned! If you encounter any more bugs, please let us know either on the forum or in the feedback form!
The challenges with releasing new versions of the game really come down to how much time we can spend doing systematic playtesting. Testing new features is certainly fun, but old features that we’ve tested a hundred times before? Not so much. I get to thinking since it’s worked all this time, and I don’t remember changing any related code, there’s no need to test it, right? Heh, they say assumption is the mother of all screw ups. Anyways, I’ve started writing a checklist of things to look out for before releasing new versions (based on what has gone wrong in the past), so at the very least we probably won’t break anything twice.
I also want to reiterate that we have read through all the feedback both on the form and from events. While we didn’t get around to implementing everything we hoped to, we definitely agree with the feedback we’ve received so far, and we will be working them into the game!
On another note, Rapture was fun but hard work! The game received quite a lot of interest at the event, and the goodie bags and sweets went down well! We’ve discovered our tutorial holds the player’s hand too much though, so we’ll be working on that too. This Saturday (18th) we’ll be at Game Anglia with some more sweets and goodie bags! It doesn’t matter if you’ve already played the game, come visit us anyway!
Also Game Anglia peeps have given us a link for anyone who wants to sit in on the Indie Showcase, you can grab some free tickets here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/game-anglia-indie-showcase-free-entry-tickets-39523691425.
P.S. Dwarves are cooler than Goblins, don’t listen to Faye. She’s just mad at us over the ballista we made her draw.
